WATCH: A working Star Wars Imperial speeder bike
First, the good news. There is finally a real-life Star Wars Imperial speeder bike that can whiz through the forest.
Now, the bad news. The bike is just a few inches long, and can carry just an action figure-sized passenger.
Still, the new toy, made by Adam Woodworth from an off-the-shelf Star Wars toy, is still no less awesome.
"This project was an obvious choice to combine my interest and experience in RC (remote control) flight with my love of Star Wars stuff. I like always having some strange project on the work bench and this one was next in line, an attempt to build a version of the Imperial Speeder Bikes from the movie that I could 'get into' and fly around myself," Woodworth said on Makezine.com.
He said the body is from a 1:6 scale (12-inch) Hasbro Power Of The Force series Speeder Bike, which has Scout Trooper, Luke, and Leia versions.
Woodworth then installed tiny motors and fashioned a rider out of pipe cleaners and old Nerf darts, with the boots and legs zip-tied to the bike to keep the legs from getting sucked into the rotors.
To complete the setup, he installed an FPV camera into the helmet.
The result? a realistic-looking flying scene out of the Star Wars movies. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
