Bantay Babae, Girl+ app helps keep women safe during their commute

The Parañaque branch of Soroptomist International (SI) recently launched its Bantay Babae impact project which aims to “forearm women and girls on where to get help and where best to pass” while on their daily commute to and from school or work.

As part of the project, SI Parañaque will be mapping out PNP Women’s Help Desks, barangay halls, and other places in the city where women commuting home late at night or victims of abuse can seek help.

“With today’s technology, we hope to use it to our advantage and be able to use technology to find the safest place and if we are in trouble, call for help,” SI Parañaque said in a press release.

The first part of the project involves visiting school and office visits to promote safety and safety awareness. The second part involves supporting Girl+, an Android lock screen app with options for making emergency call and a panic button that enables your phone to make a shrill sound when pressed.
