XBox Music now lets you stream from OneDrive

Microsoft is finally offering something that's music to audiophiles' ears, with its OneDrive storage and Xbox Music service.

The software giant's Xbox Music now plays back music files stored on an account holder's OneDrive online storage.

Supported files

But at least initially, the service indicated it presently supports MP3, M4A (AAC) and WMA files only.

Music Pass subscribers can get 100 GB additional storage in OneDrive to save their music.

Users can add up to 50,000 songs to their collection.

With the new setup, Microsoft said users can play MP3 files "on your PC, phone, and Xbox."

Catch-up

But PC World also noted this is more a case of Microsoft playing catch-up, as competitors like Google allowed the uploading of MP3 files to Google Play, and Apple to its iCloud.

PC World also said it is not immediately clear either if Microsoft will check if the music file is pirated.

A separate report on The Verge said the music is accessible on Windows 8.1 devices, Xboxes, or the web.'
