Kids can design their own 3D-printed toys with this app
Why buy toys for your kids when you can let them design—and print—their own?
This is the idea behind the new Tinkerplay app by Autodesk that lets a user design and customize toys on a mobile device, and then 3D-print them.
"The Tinkerplay app is based on the popular Modio app, which Autodesk previously acquired, and will join the Tinkercad family of products. The Tinkerplay app allows users to design and customize characters and creatures digitally with the option to 3D print afterwards," Autodesk said.
It added the 3D-printed parts can be snapped together for play.
New parts, features and functionality have been added to make the world of 3D design "simple, fun and engaging," it added.
Users can choose from a collection of profesionally designed character templates - or create their own. They can then customize the design.
A separate article on Engadget said Tinkerplay is a kid-friendly app that makes it quick and easy for all age groups to design and experiment.
Its creator, Autodesk, is more known for its AutoCAD design software.
The app is now available on iOS, Android and Windows.
But Engadget also noted the app engages a more pertinent audience: "a generation that learns to swipe screens and tinker with gadgets before they can walk." — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
