Adam West and Burt Ward returning for Batman ’66 Animated Film
By TIM G. VILLASOR
Looks like fans of the old Batman television series in the 1960’s have something to be excited about very soon, as the show’s own dynamic duo, stars Adam West and Burt Ward, have announced that they’ll be reprising their iconic roles in an upcoming "Batman ’66" film!
Set to be released around the time of the show’s 50th Anniversary next year, the new film was announced at this year’s Mad Monster Convention, at which West and Ward were invited as special guests. Playing coy at first before making the exciting news, the original Batman and Robin of the 60’s soon revealed that they would indeed star in a 90-minute feature that sees them returning to their role as Caped Crusaders.
As one of the most popular yet campy iterations of the character throughout his 75 year history, the Batman Television series first aired in January 12, 1966 and lasted for three seasons for a total of 120 impressive episodes. Adam West starred in the titular role as Batman/ Bruce Wayne, with Burt Ward playing his ward Dick Grayson, aka Robin The Boy Wonder. The show was recently released in Blu-Ray and DVD with the full, 120 episode run alongside a collection of extras, special features, and collectibles, which included an episode guide, “Adam West Scrapbook”, and a miniature Batmobile. The series also lives on with a comic book series entitled “Batman ‘66” that tells new adventures set in the world of the tv show.
No release date has been given for the new Batman ’66 animated feature, other than it arrives on the same year as Warner Bros. big DC Cinematic Universe film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. — TJD, GMA News
