Twitter Curator online journalism tool now available to media outlets

Twitter this week rolled out to publishers a new media tool that may compete with the likes of Storify.

Dubbed Curator, the new tool highlights "relevant conversations and trending topics on Twitter," the micro-blogging service said.

It said the tool will "surface the best conversations using advanced filtering capabilities," and promises to "enhance your audience's experience."

However, Twitter said Curator is initially available to media publishers only. Those interested have to submit a form to request access.

Tech site Mashable said this means Curator, which was unveiled in February, is now available to any media outlet that applies for access.

Curator allows organizations to "collect tweets and Vines based around specific topics, perform more advanced searches and get access to better analytics," Mashable said.

It allows users to fine-tune their searches to find tweets based on narrow criteria, and provides "real-time insights into trending topics and conversations on Twitter."

Such data may help news outlets identify viral trends or important topics, it said.

"Given Storify's success, it makes sense Twitter would want to create a native version of these tools themselves," it added. - Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
