Next iPhone might get dual-lens camera

A dual-lens camera could be among the major new features of the next version of the iPhone, a tech site reported over the weekend.

Engineers at Apple appear to have addressed major issues about the dual-lens setup, T3.com reported, citing information from Taiwanese site Business Weekly.

"(U)ntil now, Apple’s dual-lens plans have been hampered by various issues, such as blurry images and the fact that no manufacturer has been able to cope with Apple’s huge production demands," T3.com said.

The latest iPhones - the 6 and 6 Plus - sport 8-megapixel cameras.

T3 quoted the CEO of Altek, which makes dual-lens cameras for firms like HTC and Huawei, as saying Apple spent at least three years secretly testing dual-lens cameras.

But Apple appears to have resolved issues with the dual-lens setup with its acquisition of LinX technologies.

It has also reportedly addressed supply issues by finding a manufacturer, the report added.

However, T3 said the dual-lens setup may not likely be introduced along with the iPhone 6S later this year.

"It’s more likely that we’ll see a dual-lens on the iPhone 7, so you serial snappers can start getting excited," it said. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
