Rumored iPhone 6S may look the same as iPhone 6; changes mostly under the hood

The iPhone 6S, the next version of Apple's popular smartphone, may look just like the current iPhone 6, with most improvements being under the proverbial hood, an Apple-oriented site said.

Citing a proven source familiar with Apple’s supply chain, 9to5mac said the 6S will likely have the same thickness and width as the iPhone 6.

"Our source says that any potential difference in thickness or width on the 4.7-inch iPhone 6-sized device is too minimal to notice, but this does not (yet) rule out rumored changes to the larger, 5.5-inch iPhone 6S Plus body," it said.

Good news for makers of iPhone cases and accessories as they need not worry about redesigning their products, it added.

Also, the site said the rear design may be "identical to that of the current iPhone, similar to the transition from the iPhone 5 to iPhone 5S."

Even the Space Gray color has remained light, contrasting with the darker Space Gray Apple Watch, but it added Apple’s final hardware "could include additional tweaks."

On the other hand, 9to5mac said there are many small changes inside the iPhone 6S frame, including mounting points for a new logic board.

There is also no dual-lens camera system in the 6S, judging from the rear shell design.

Antenna lines

As for those who don't like the antenna lines on the iPhone 6, these do not appear likely to go away in the 6S, though Apple had filed a patent earlier to make these lines disappear.

But 9to5mac hinted at "some good news regarding NFC antenna performance."

Meanwhile, the site said the 6S' bottom design is the same as that of the iPhone 6, "down to the number of speaker holes and the position of the headphone, microphone, and Lightning holes." — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
