Twitter launches Windows 10 native app

Users of Windows 10, Microsoft's latest flagship operating system, can get instant access to top tweets, photos and videos without having to log in.

This new Twitter app will be available alongside the launch of Windows 10 for PCs and tablets, product manager David Gasca said.

"You’ll also see Tweets right out of the box in live tiles from the Start menu" Gasca said in a blog post.

Major features of the Twitter app for Windows 10 include:

- Twitter Live Tiles
- Multiple photo Tweets, where a user can upload up to four photos per Tweet
- Animated GIFs
- Vine playback

Also, Tweets with photos, Vine videos and select content can show a preview in a user's home timeline.

Users can share photos privately in Direct Messages, Gasca added.

The Twitter for Windows 10 app is available globally for Windows 10 users.

A separate report on The Next Web said the logged-out functionality may be part of Twitter's efforts to attract new users.

It said Twitter recently implemented similar features for the Web.

"The app is built under Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform, meaning we should expect it to also run on Windows 10 Mobile once that rolls out later in the year," it added.

But more importantly, TNW said it is a good sign for Microsoft that major names are on board to create apps for the new OS. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
