Pinoy designs double-decker 'Sky Jeepney'
A new double-decker jeepney named the Sky Jeepney has been designed by a Filipino and is currently being registered so that it can be used to drive around tourists.
“Noong nag-conceptualize kami diyan gusto sana namin na ang Philippines magkaroon din ng icon pagdating sa mga double deck buses,” said Mark Victor Bautista, the designer of the Sky Jeepney.
The jeepney has tables with built-in cupholders and sleeping areas at the back. It also has a refrigerator, microwave, and water dispenser. Passengers can use a videoke machine for entertainment. The jeepney also has GPS and CCTVs cameras inside and outside.
Two models of the Sky Jeepney have been built—one can seat 40 people and another can seat 30.
The makers aren’t closed to the idea of using the Sky Jeepney for public transportation, but they would have to be modified to make them better-suited for that purpose. In addition, there’s currently a moratorium on issuing franchising for public utility jeepneys.
The jeepney was first proposed back in 2013 and a scale drawing displayed at the Philippine Travel Mart 2013. — Bea Montenegro/TJD, GMA News
