‘Pocket MapleStory’ heading to Philippines, Southeast Asia

A beloved MMORPG franchise is coming to mobile devices in the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia in the form of “Pocket MapleStory SEA.”

Many gamers have a particular fondness for “MapleStory,” a classic MMORPG known for its cute 2D graphics, addictive side-scrolling action, and accessible social networking functionality. “Pocket MapleStory” is a chance to experience this universe in a whole new dimension thanks to mobile technology.

Within a few days of its launch in South Korea, “Pocket MapleStory” jumped to number one on the Top Free Games charts in the Google Play Store (where it has garnered over 270,000 five-star reviews) and the iTunes App Store.

While “Pocket MapleStory” retains many of the original game’s elements, it also consists of new features. For instance, advancement in “Pocket MapleStory” is much faster, while real-time cooperative modes have received a significant overhaul to make them a suitable fit for mobile devices.

At launch, only three classes are available – Demon Slayer, Dual Blade, and Angel Buster – but more will be made available in future upgrades. Players will have mountains of loot to collect and vast customization options to fiddle around with. As a treat to fans of the original game, “Pocket MapleStory” also sees the return of classic characters, pets, and monsters.

A story 10 years in the making

One of the oldest MMORPGs in the industry, “MapleStory” recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with Southeast Asian fans.

“We have served fans of MapleStory proudly for the past 10 years,” stated Asiasoft Chairman Sherman Tan. “We hope to strengthen this bond with them in Pocket MapleStory.”

“Pocket MapleStory SEA” will be published through Asiasoft (Asiasoft Corporation Public Company Limited) and serviced by Playpark.

“We have a long-standing relationship with Asiasoft for MapleStory and we are excited to be working with them again for Pocket MapleStory,” stated Myong Il Kim, Director of Pocket MapleStory, Nexon.

On the “Pocket MapleStory SEA” website, Playpark has initiated a campaign to assist “MapleStory” fans in reconnecting with their friends and guild members. The Pocket MapleStory SEA Facebook page is also now available. Pre-registration will be open this coming December. — TJD, GMA News
