Matt Ryan's Constantine to cameo in Arrow

Fans of the ill-fated NBC series Constantine were certainly crushed over the news that the beloved comic book show based on the DC Vertigo series “Hellblazer” was getting the axe and not coming back for another season. Despite petitions made by fans earlier this year in social media to “Save Constantine” from cancellation, the network decided not to renew the show and the talents involved saw their contracts expire after only thirteen episodes chronicling the adventures of a con man who dabbles in the occult and supernatural while saving the innocent from demons and those who serve the darkness.

Fortunately, a reprisal of sorts was given to fans thanks to the minds behind the highly successful DC TV Universe in The CW that is home to the DC Comics inspired shows “Arrow” and “The Flash”. In this week’s episode of Arrow Season 4 entitled “Haunted”, actor Matt Ryan made his triumphant return to his signature role as Constantine, sporting that familiar long trenchcoat, smoking his favorite brand of cigarettes, and performing rituals and magic to tap into mystical forces beyond human comprehension. As a one-time guest appearance, Constantine is called upon by Oliver Queen/ Green Arrow to assist in restoring the soul of the newly resurrected Sara Lance/ Canary, owing up to a friendship that is explained through the course of flashbacks in the episode and subtly establishing that the former NBC series’ history has been integrated into the “Arrowverse”.

Despite reports of a rough cut of the episode leaking a few days earlier, “Haunted” has gained critical praise and acclaim from fans of Constantine, Arrow, and the DC Universe in general. Via an interview with Comic Book.com, actor Matt Ryan has even expressed interest in reprising the role again in the future (http://comicbook.com/2015/11/03/matt-ryan-talks-coming-to-arrow-more-constantine-appearances-and/), and it certainly isn’t a forgone conclusion that many viewers want him back as the resident mystic expert on the side of the angels and heroes. Only time will tell if  Warner Bros and The CW invites the Con Man back for another episode… Or even give the go signal for a new series! — TJD, GMA News
