The Flash, Supergirl to team up in 'Worlds Finest'

DC Entertainment and its properties have been making a big statement in live-action television, especially when it comes to superhero TV Shows featuring beloved characters from the DC Universe.

Starting with 2012’s “Arrow” on The CW, the show that chronicles the rise and evolution of the superhero Green Arrow is now four seasons strong, and has in itself spun-off two new series on the same network in “The Flash” and “Legends of Tomorrow”. The popularity of those shows saw the potential in investing in the genre, which gave CBS a good reason to go ahead with their own superhero TV series in “Supergirl”, which is produced by the same team behind The CW DC TV Shows.

Now it looks like both networks are pooling their resources together to bring a boost in ratings and give fans one of the biggest superhero team-ups requested in television, as The CW and CBS have officially greenlighted “The Flash” to guest star in an upcoming episode of Supergirl this year!

After months of speculation and rumors following a feature on the May 2015 issue of Variety magazine, Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen/ Flash will crossover to CBS’ Supergirl to team up with Melissa Benoist’s Kara Zor-El for an episode that is reportedly titled “Worlds Finest” – a nod to the DC Comics team-up title that mostly featured Batman and Superman, and the fact that the current season of “The Flash” is exploring the vast reaches of the “Multiverse” – parallel worlds that exist differently from our own, and among them evidently “Supergirl”.

The team-up between The Flash and Supergirl echoes several attempts made in the past for crossovers to actually happen between two superhero shows in different networks. When NBC still had Constantine and ruminated over its future, Arrow star Stephen Amell was willing to guest star in the show to help save it from cancellation. Ultimately that never came to pass and the show folded after one season, but good things came after that anyway when The CW announced that Matt Ryan would reprise his role as John Constantine from that series in a special guest role for Arrow Season, where the character effectively crossed over to the show to help Oliver Queen and his friends restore Sara Lance’s soul to her body. Only time will tell how The Flash’s visit to Supergirl’s world will do, but only good things will come out of this team-up for sure.
