Champion crowned in ‘Heroes of the Storm’ SEA Finals day two

The “Heroes of the Storm” Spring Global Championship Southeast Asia Finals concluded on March 6, and we have a new champion.

It was a long, challenging road for Renovatio and Renovatio 2. But thanks to hard work and a never-say-die attitude, they earned every step of the way to the top of the HotS Spring Philippines National Finals. Then, on March 5, they proved their mettle once more on the first day of the SEA Finals. After facing off against Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand’s best contenders, Renovatio emerged with 3 wins and no losses, winning them a spot in the Winners Bracket Semifinals. Renovatio 2 had 1 win and 2 losses, which put them in Losers Bracket Round 1.

Renovatio fought to stay in the Winners Bracket. The team consisted of:

John “Harharrr” Ichikawa (Flex)
Neil “vyy” San Juan (Flex)
Giovanni “Hyskoa” Ong (Assassin)
John “MiseryProx” Hernaez (Assassin)
Ronel “Stronger” Tan (Support)

Renovatio 2 fought to return to the Winners Bracket. The team consisted of:

Kieron “JumpyLion” Goli (Flex)
HongJu “Asurai” Lee (Tank)
Carlo Miguel “Kaijah” Grande (Assassin)
Willy “Four” Lapidario (Support)
Lemuel “Lemmington” Eribaren (Assassin)

Losers Bracket Round 1: Renovatio 2 vs. Relics (Singapore)

Match 1: Dragon Shire

Early in the game, Muradin (Asurai), as the Dragon Knight, slaughtered Relics’ Greymane, and dealt considerable damage to the first middle lane fort. Jaina (Kaijah) and Muradin later concentrated on capturing siege giants to bolster their troops.

A heavy middle lane clash cost Ren2 two of their number. After Relics summoned the Dragon Knight, a series of catastrophes for Ren2 concluded with the destruction of their forward middle fort. While Falstad (Lemmington) was destroying Relics’ anterior upper fort, Relics were crushing Ren2’s second bottom lane fort. Relics then moved upwards to wreck Ren2’s rear middle fort.

After slaying three Ren2 heroes, Relics – with several siege giants in tow – marched into Ren2’s base to pulverize their core.

Relics: 14 kills, Lv19 vs. Ren2: 3 kills, Lv16

Match 2: Cursed Hollow

Relics’ viciousness totaled Ren2’s forward top and bottom lane forts. ETC (Asurai), Sylvanas (JumpyLion), and Lt. Morales (Four) played a pivotal role in the destruction of Relics’ forward bottom fort. But a struggle for the tribute left three Ren2 dead, and the team cursed. This allowed Relics to devastate Ren2’s forward middle lane fort.

Ren2 leveled Relics’ first top lane fort, but Relics retaliated by taking Ren2’s remaining bottom lane fort. Then, with the assistance of a boss, Relics killed three Ren2 heroes at a top lane clash. Their core largely undefended, Relics had little trouble claiming victory.

Relics: 14 kills, Lv18 vs. Ren2: 3 kills, Lv15

Winner: Relics, 2-0

Ren2’s defeat eliminated them from the tournament.

Semifinals: Renovatio vs. Resurgence (Singapore)

Match 1: Cursed Hollow

At an early top lane clash, Renovatio massacred Resurgence. Renovatio also succeeded in gathering their first two tributes.

Valla (Hyskoa) and Sonya (vyy) busied themselves enlisting the service of siege giants and bruisers. Resurgence shrugged off the extra pressure to grab two tributes. While four Renovatio heroes were securing a boss, Rehgar (Stronger) snagged the third tribute and cursed Resurgence. This let them obliterate Resurgence’s forward top and bottom lane forts with ease. Three Renovatio heroes were killed in the subsequent assault on the second bottom fort, but Li-Ming (MiseryProx) was able to Disintegrate Resurgence’s Greymane in the process

It was a downward spiral for Resurgence after that. Renovatio prevented Resurgence from snatching their third tribute twice, and brought down their forward middle fort. With the help of a boss, Renovatio swept into the Resurgence’s base with the force of a tsunami, flattening their core.

Renovatio: 15 kills, Lv19 vs. Resurgence: 9 kills, Lv17

Match 2: Dragon Shire

The early game was rough on Renovatio, with four of their heroes dying. Then, Resurgence invoked the power of the Dragon Knight to lay siege to Renovatio’s forward middle lane fort.

A bottom lane confrontation demolished a Renovatio fort, but Greymane’s (Hyskoa) robust defense prevented a second fort from collapsing. Things were still looking grim for Renovatio, however; their heroes kept dying, then Resurgence summoned another Dragon Knight and flattened Renovatio’s remaining forward fort.

Refusing submission, Renovatio focused on seizing siege giants and bruisers. With them, they shattered all of Resurgence’s forward forts. Renovatio then summoned the Dragon Knight, and smashed through Resurgence’s posterior middle fort, and the core. It was an amazing comeback match for Renovatio.

Renovatio: 6 kills, Lv20 vs. Resurgence: 9 kills, Lv19

Winner: Renovatio, 2-0

Courtesy of their victory, Renovatio proceeded to the Final Round. Resurgence’s loss moved them to the Losers Bracket.

Meanwhile, in the Losers Bracket…

In Losers Bracket Round 1, Thailand teams Hot Head Gaming and Greedisgood9999+ duked it out for another shot at the Winners Bracket. Greedisgood9999+ won 2-0, then moved to Round 2, where they confronted Relics. Relics won 2-0 to face fellow Singaporean team Resurgence in Round 3. Resurgence prevailed with a score of 2-0.

This put Resurgence back in the Winners Bracket, where they once again faced Renovatio in the Final Round of the tournament.

Finals: Renovatio vs. Resurgence (Singapore)

Match 1: Infernal Shrines

The teams proved evenly matched, until Resurgence summoned their Punisher. The behemoth stomped through the top lane, trashing the first fort and murdering Uther (Stronger). Leoric (vyy) stayed at the top lane to exterminate the Punisher, while Muradin (Harharr) and Uther rushed downwards to resist a Resurgence assault on the forward middle fort.

Resurgence summoned the Punisher again. They bulldozed Renovatio’s forward middle fort and killed Greymane (MiseryProx). Resurgence then gathered mercenaries, and inundated Renovatio’s forward bottom fort with their sheer brutality.

While the teams fought in the middle and bottom lanes, Resurgence’s Sonya soloed the Guardians at the upper shrine and summoned the Punisher. Resurgence crushed the rear middle fort, then killed every Renovatio hero except for Muradin. After capturing numerous mercenaries and another Punisher, Resurgence broke through Renovatio’s posterior upper fort, then turned their core to dust.

Resurgence: 9 kills, Lv20 vs. Renovatio: 7 kills, Lv19

Match 2: Battlefield of Eternity

The race for the first Immortal was marked by heavy casualties on both sides. But Renovatio succeeded in summoning their Immortal thrice in a row, allowing them to put the hurt on Resurgence. By Renovatio’s third Immortal, both teams had already lost their forward top lane forts.

Renovatio cleared Resurgence’s forward lower fort. Resurgence then summoned their own Immortal, but at the cost of getting wiped out by Renovatio, thanks in part to Zagara’s (MiseryProx) well-timed Devouring Maw. As the Immortal destroyed Renovatio’s forward bottom fort, Renovatio destroyed Resurgence’s rear upper fort.

Resurgence then brought down the health of Renovatio’s Immortal to less than 25%. In a surprising turn of events, Renovatio were able to stall further attacks on their Immortal, which allowed them to slay Resurgence’s Immortal. Zagara, Jaina (Hyskoa), and Tyrande (Stronger) then eradicated four Resurgence heroes. Together with the Immortal, Renovatio plowed through Resurgence’s last fort, then wrecked their core.

Renovatio: 22 kills, Lv21 vs. Resurgence: 16 kills, Lv20

Match 3: Sky Temple

The teams found themselves stealing temples from each other, and gathering a multitude of mercenaries. By monopolizing the bottom temple, Renovatio shattered Resurgence’s first bottom lane fort. Sonya (vyy) and Muradin (Harharr) also helped take down Resurgence’s ETC.

Renovatio held on to the middle temple by slaughtering three Resurgence heroes. Two more of Resurgence’s forward forts fell as a result. Resurgence avenged themselves, flattening Renovatio’s anterior top lane fort.

Renovatio seized a boss, then crushed Resurgence’s posterior bottom fort with little effort. Renovatio’s dominion over the lower temple also annihilated Resurgence’s posterior middle fort. Muradin seized the upper temple, which razed Resurgence’s last fort. In a clash at the map’s center, Resurgence offed Sonya, but Renovatio dispatched four Resurgence heroes. It was the death knell for Resurgence. With their core defenseless, they fell before the might of Renovatio.

Renovatio: 12 kills, Lv20 vs. Resurgence: 3 kills, Lv18

Winner: Renovatio, 2-1
