Tai Chi robots developed by university students

Two robots have become celebrities at Zhoukou Normal University in central China's Henan Province after their stunning performances at a tai chi competition at the beginning of May.

The robot twins weigh about two kilograms each and are 35 centimeters in height. They were developed by students at the university.

"Our university planned to hold a tai chi competition and we just had one dancing robot, so the idea of combining tai chi with robots came to us. With an expectation to developing an interesting and novel product, we broke the tai chi movements down and programmed the robots accordingly. The result is quite good," said Jiao Shizhan, one of the robot designers.

In addition to doing tai chi, the robots can also dance to some melodies like "Little Apple" and "Nobody."

"Through designing the robots, our confidence has grown and we learned a lot. In the robot debugging process knowledge involving programming, adjusting parameter and C programming language were all used. Therefore, what we learned in our classes was consolidated," said Jiao. — Reuters
