Meet Overwatch’s new sniper: Ana Amari!

For the fans who’ve been following Blizzard’s trail of breadcrumbs:  The clues have been there all along.

Now the developer has come forward to prove the speculations true: “Overwatch” has a new character, and it is indeed Ana Amari, an Egyptian support sniper.

Ana Amari was one of the founding members of Overwatch, and was among its best agents — until an encounter with Widowmaker changed everything.

The video below provides a detailed origin story for Ana Amari.

Yes, Ana is the mother of Pharah. It seems badassery runs in the family!

According to Blizzard, Ana is a “battle-scarred veteran who supports her teammates from a distance using a unique and highly specialized collection of weapons.” This 60-year-old sharpshooter has four main abilities.

Firstly, she wields a Biotic Rifle, which is her primary weapon. This long-range firearm allows her to heal allies or deal “ongoing damage” to opponents from afar.

Secondly, she can render an enemy unconscious by firing a Sleep Dart at them. Unconscious players are awakened when damaged.

She can also toss a Biotic Grenade that heals friends and hurts enemies in a small area. For a brief moment, allies affected by the grenade experience increased healing from any source. Meanwhile, opponents caught in the blast are unable to receive healing for a short duration.

Last but not least is her ultimate, Nano Boost. With this, Ana can hit an ally with a combat boost, which temporarily augments their speed, damage output, and defense.

Blizzard has yet to announce a release date for Ana Amari, but she will soon be available – for free!

At the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) on July 21, from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. PDT, Blizzard developers will also unveil more information about Ana at a panel called “Behind the Scenes of Overwatch’s Newest Hero.” Presenting a behind-the-scenes peek into Ana’s development will be director of story & creative development James Waugh, “Overwatch” senior designer Michael Chu, and “Overwatch” assistant art director Arnold Tsang.
