PlayStation VR to be released in the PHL this October


Sony’s virtual reality system, the PlayStation VR, will be available in the Philippines on October 13, 2016. The announcement was made by Sony Interactive Entertainment Hong Kong Ltd Singapore Branch (SIES) at the PlayStation VR Asia Conference on July 28.

 

The PlayStation VR is head-mounted virtual reality system designed to be completely functional with the Sony PlayStation 4. As such, it aims to bring gamers an unprecedented level of immersion. It boasts of a 5.7-inch OLED display panel, which has a resolution of 1920×RGB×1080 (or 960×RGB×1080 per eye).

Originally called Project Morpheus when it was first announced in March 2014, Sony's virtual reality system was unveiled as the more simple "Playstation VR" at a Tokyo Game Show press conference on September 15, 2015. 

Now, it’s been revealed that over 60 software titles will be released for the PlayStation VR in Asia and 13 of those titles are locally developed. These include games such as “O! My Genesis” from Taiwanese studio XPEC Entertainment, “Stifled” from Singaporean studio Gattai Games, and “Mortal Blitz VR” from South Korean studio SKONEC Entertainment Co., Ltd.

“Since we unveiled PlayStation VR, we’ve received a tremendous response from gamers and developers. And I am so delighted to announce that PlayStation VR will be available from 13th October, simultaneous with Japan, Europe and North America, demonstrating how we think highly of gamers in Asia," Hiroyuki Oda, Deputy President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia said. 

He added, "We also want to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to game developers from Asia for creating so many exciting PlayStation VR titles. Some of these great titles will be released along with PlayStation VR. Last but not least, we want to thank gamers in Asia for their patience and continued support to PlayStation VR. We will bring the best gaming experience that is only possible with PlayStation VR.”

In the Philippines, the PlayStation VR will cost P22,900. The package will come with the VR headset, a headset connection cable, a processor unit, an HDMI able, a USB cable, stereo headphones, an AC power cord, and an AC adaptor.

 

There will also be a PlayStation VR and PlayStation Camera bundle that will cost P25,290. This will come with all the items listed above, as well as the PlayStation Camera.

Additionally, starting July 30, 2016, customers will be able to preorder the PlayStation VR or the PlayStation VR and PlayStation Camera bundle at selected Sony Centers and authorized dealers such as the Sony Centers at SM Megamall and SM Mall of Asia; Gameline at SM North Annex; GameXtreme at Greenhills V-Mall; Toy Kingdom at SM Megamall; Datablitz at SM Aura; and iTech at Glorietta 4.

These stores will also be giving away free PlayStation VR Demo discs to customers, allowing them a glimpse into the experience the system offers. — AT, GMA News
