PlayStation Neo to be revealed at ‘meeting’ in September – reports
A lot of reports have been coming through the grapevine that Sony is gearing up to reveal the next evolution of its PlayStation 4 hardware, which has been given the codename “Neo” and is expected to have a higher CPU, GPU, and memory in addition to supporting 4K image output on new TVs.
Destructoid reports that the reveal might happen a bit earlier than expected, with an announcement happening at a PlayStation event in the US in early September!
According to Ars Technica, Sony has sent an invitation to media for a “PlayStation Meeting” that will take place at The PlayStation Theater in New York City on September 7 at 3 p.m. Many have speculated that this will be the event where Sony will officially unveil the PlayStation Neo.
Reports also speculate that development kits will be launched after the reveal, giving game developers the necessary tools they need to produce titles that are supported by the Neo.
While there wasn’t much to be said about the Neo during this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, many are expecting Sony to make a formal introduction and announcement before or during this year’s Tokyo Game Show. It would be an opportune time for the company to make that move as well, since Microsoft has already picked up the pace and released their newest version of the Xbox One, called the Xbox One S. It boasts a new slim console body and supports 4K resolution as well. The Neo is also expected to support the upcoming PlayStation VR peripheral that Sony will be released in October.
No definite price has been revealed for the Neo, save for an estimated $700 price tag. — BM, GMA News
