30-disc Star Trek Blu-ray collection celebrates series’ 50th anniversary

Fans of Star Trek have cause for celebration this year, as the brainchild of the late Gene Roddenberry officially turns 50 come September. After finding success again with the latest action-packed film installment that was “Star Trek Beyond” and gearing up for a new voyage in January with “Star Trek Discovery,” Trekkies are going to be over the moon with the announcement that the beloved “Original Series” (TOS) is getting the long-awaited Blu-Ray release it deserves.

According to IGN, the upcoming “Star Trek Ultimate Edition” is a 30-disc Blu-Ray box set that will feature all 79 episodes from the three season run of “The Original Series,” which starred William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Spock, and DeForest Kelley as Dr. Bones McCoy.

The set will also include all six Star Trek films, which centered on the original cast and their continuing adventures after their original five-year mission in space—including the director’s cut of “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." The short-lived Star Trek animated series will be included as well.

As a special incentive for those who buy the set, a special Starfleet delta shield pin will be included in the package, as well as special designed posters for all six Star Trek movies by artist Juan Ortiz.

No price tag has been revealed for the box set yet, but die-hard Star Trek fans will probably find it worth the price.

The original Star Trek series first aired on September 8, 1966 on NBC, and has since
turned into a multimillion-dollar franchise owned by CBS and Paramount
Pictures. — BM, GMA News
