Hideo Kojima on Metal Gear Survive: ‘Where do zombies fit in?’

Legendary Japanese video game developer Hideo Kojima has denied he had any part in the making of "Metal Gear Survive" and questioned the direction the series has taken.

The creator of the "Metal Gear" series was at last week’s Tokyo Game Show to talk about his upcoming new IP “Death Stranding.” However, there were many wondering what his thoughts were on the new installment, Konami’s first Metal Gear game since Kojima's acrimonious split from the company last year.

The new game features zombies, and Kojima gave a very clear answer to a question on whether he had some part in the game's creation: “That has nothing to do with me!”

Joined by Yoji Shinkawa, who also formerly worked on the Metal Gear games in Konami, Kojima was quick to point out that he doesn’t agree with the direction the series has taken. “The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage. Where do zombies fit in that?” he said.

Game news and reviews reporter YongYea uploaded what he called a more accurate translation of Kojima’s comments:

Konami uploaded a 15-minute gameplay demo of "Metal Gear Survive" which was shown in the Tokyo Game Show, and as of posting time the video has received 22,856 dislikes to 1,437 likes—perhaps showing the displeasure of fans who have been loyal to the series.
