Microsoft has officially cancelled Scalebound

It looks like gamers who were looking forward to the Microsoft and PlatinumGames developed “Scalebound” are going to be sorely disappointed with the latest news coming for the game, as Kotaku.com reports that Microsoft Studios has officially announced the game's cancellation, and production has ceased entirely.

Said Microsoft's press statement:

After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for “Scalebound”. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including “Halo Wars 2”, “Crackdown 3”, “State of Decay 2”, “Sea of Thieves”, and other great experiences.

Long stranded in developmental hell and developed by famed Devil May Cry and Bayonetta director Hideki Kamiya, “Scalebound” was an ambitious action role playing game that featured third person perspective gameplay and DMC style action game elements that were enhanced with the addition of dragons. Players took control of the character Drew, who is accompanied by a dragon called Thuban as they traverse and explore the fictional world of Draconis. The game was powered by the Unreal Engine 4, and was set to be released in late 2016 but was delayed to 2017 before it was ultimately cancelled. — TJD, GMA News
