Alicia Vikander kicks ass as Lara Croft
Fans looking forward to the film adaptation of Crystal Dynamics’ highly successful “Tomb Raider” are going to get a first glimpse at the lead in action, as The Daily Mail has posted the first pictures straight from the South African set where the film is currently shooting.
Sporting a low cut khaki and looking like she can kick butt, the 28-year old Swedish actress who starred and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in “The Danish Girl” is looking like a pretty fine choice to play the new Lara Croft in the big screen – following in the footsteps of her predecessor Angelina Jolie who played the part in the 2001 Tomb Raider movie and its 2003 sequel “Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life”.
Based on the 1996 video game series that first debuted on the original Playstation and went on to spawn a lucrative franchise, Tomb Raider follows the exploits of archeologist Lara Croft, who goes on exploits around the world in search of treasure and adventure in an Indiana Jones style manner.
First developed by London based video game studio Eidos Interactive, the series and its assets were acquired by Square Enix in 2009. Eventually, a rebooted video game series followed with the release of the critically successful “Tomb Raider” in 2013 – which told the early and younger days of Lara and how she went on to become an adventurer. A sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, was released in late 2015 for the Xbox One as a timed exclusive before getting a multi-console release in late 2016.
