Hasbro to reboot G.I. Joe movie series –report

It looks like the “Real American Heroes” are getting sent back to reboot camp as far as the film franchise is concerned, as the Los Angeles Times reports that Hasbro is concentrating on creating a “Marvel Cinematic Universe style” shared universe for their properties – and G.I.Joe is among their list of priorities to reboot and possibly crossover with their highly successful Transformers films, calling their initiative “a more millennial approach”.

According to head of Hasbro Studios Consumer Products Simon Waters, things have changed everywhere to warrant a fresh start for their other big property involving heroic soldiers fighting against a terrorist organization called “Cobra” that is determined to rule the world.

“The World has changed, and I think you’re going to see G.I. Joe changing with it.” Waters said. “There’s going to be a much more contemporary approach to the whole franchise, and that will allow us to develop different characters.”

Following the release of the last G.I. Joe film in 2013, nothing has been heard or said for the Joes in the film department as far as sequels are concerned. Habro paired with Paramount Pictures to bring their other successful toy line besides Transformers to the big screen with 2009’s “G.I.Joe: The Rise of Cobra”, which starred Channing Tatum as Duke and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander.

Its sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation came out four years later, with Tatum’s character being killed off and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Roadblock serving as the new lead alongside special guest star Bruce Willis as General Joseph Colton. Both Joe films were modest successes at the Box Office. — TJD, GMA News
