Sylvester Stallone’s character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 revealed

One of the biggest mysteries in the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” has seemingly been solved, as production notes from the film for press screenings have made their way online—revealing some details that the movie's producers have gone great lengths to keep secret from the public until now.

One of the big casting announcements last year, when the film was still in production, was the casting of legendary actor and director Sylvester Stallone, better known for his “rags to riches” breakout role in the Rocky film series and the titular gung-ho commando hero in the Rambo movie franchise.

His addition meant being reunited with his “Tango and Cash” co-star and fellow action movie veteran Kurt Russel, who play’s Peter Quill/ Star-Lord’s long lost father Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

However, Stallone’s role was shrouded in mystery until the production notes and Comic Book Movie revealed that the 70-year-old actor is apparently playing Stakar, better known to Marvel Comics fans as Starhawk.

First appearing in 1975 and created by writer Steve Gerber and artist Sal Buscema, Stakar/ Starhawk in the comics is actually an enhanced human who is also known as the “One Who Knows”, fated to relive his life countless times and seeing events repeat themselves over and over again.

Because of this, he has manipulated things to what he believes to be the best outcome, making enemies along the way and being responsible for the formation of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

It’s fitting then that Stallone will play a version of the character, who is a high ranking member of the Ravagers – the “adopted family/ gang” of Peter Quill whom his mentor Yondu Udonta played by Michael Rooker is also a member of. Ironically, this reunites Rooker with Stallone after both co-starred in the 1993 action thriller “Cliffhanger”.
