Sony unveils new 'Spiderman' game at E3 for PlayStation

Sony wowed gamers at E3 in Los Angeles on Monday (June 12) with a presentation of a brand new and exclusive 'Spider-man" game for PlayStation.

'Spider-man,' due for release in 2018, is being developed by Insomniac Games, the group behind PlayStation exclusives Resistance and Ratchet & Clank, amongst others.

"The future is here and it's now with PlayStation 4 Pro and PS VR. We could not be more excited than to kick off E3 2017 celebrating the content and the creators who make PlayStation the best place to play for gamers." said Shawn Layden, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainemnt America as he unveiled the new 'Spider-man' game.

Virtual reality gaming, once a distant concept, is fast becoming the new battleground in the gaming world with developers seeking to win over fans with their immersive headsets and accessories.

Last week, Sony Corp said it had sold more than one million units of its virtual reality (VR) headset globally and said it was boosting production.

The sales momentum supports analysts' view that Sony is in a good position to build an early lead in the high-end VR headset race with its more modest price tag and by tapping the nearly 60 million users of its flagship PlayStation 4 console.

The headset, designed to work with the PlayStation 4 rather than requiring new equipment, retails at $399, cheaper than Facebook Inc's $599 Oculus Rift and HTC Corp's $799 Vive. — Reuters
