“Assassin’s Creed” anime series in the works

As Netflix’s take on Castlevania makes waves with its four episode first season, producer Adi Shankar is busy working on season 2 and turning his sights to another video game property that’s just as popular as the Konami side-scrolling series.

On his official Facebook page, Shankar revealed that he is working on an “Assassin’s Creed” anime series – bringing the franchise to the small screen for the first time.

“I’m happy to let you guys know that I’ve selected my next project,” Shankar writes. “I played the first edition of Assassin’s Creed the year I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream. At that moment I knew absolutely no one in the industry and could never have imagined that one day Ubisoft would ask me to take the world of Assassin’s Creed and create an original story set in it as an anime series. If anyone tells you not to follow your passion in life they are wrong.”

While this would be another milestone in the growing Ubisoft franchise, it isn’t the first time that the Assassin’s Creed series has tried to branch out of its video game roots.

Last year, Michael Fassbender took on the task of playing an original character in Callum Lynch, who revisits his ancestor Aguilar’s memories during the time of the Spanish Inquisition to discover the whereabouts of the Apple of Eden while fighting a centuries old war between the Assassins and Templars.

The film didn’t fare so well in the box office unfortunately, yet it proved that the series did have potential in working outside of a video game setting. The new anime series may be the key to exploring new ground that would be successful. — TJD, GMA News
