‘Final Fantasy XR’ ride coming to Universal Studios Japan in 2018
It looks like there's one more good reason to plan a trip to Japan when the new year arrives: Universal Studios Japan is adding a brand new “Final Fantasy”-themed roller coaster ride to their theme park attractions.
Called “Final Fantasy XR Ride”, the limited-time ride is part of Universal Japan’s “Cool Japan” event, which repurposes the existing “Space Fantasy: The Ride” with Virtual Reality headsets that add familiar and popular "Final Fantasy" elements to it.
To promote the coming roller coaster attraction, Universal has released a short TV Spot highlighting the ride featuring popular "Final Fantasy VII" rivals Cloud Strife and Sephiroth battling it out as a female tourist views and experiences everything with awe and excitement.
Turning 30 years old this year, Square Enix’s "Final Fantasy" franchise has grown and above and beyond its humble beginnings as a 1987 NES game. Created by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the game would spawn several sequels and spin-offs — including popular entries like Final Fantasy VI, the PlayStation era Final Fantasy VII, and Final Fantasy Tactics.
The latest entry in the franchise, "Final Fantasy XV", was released last year for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and will subsequently be released for PC in the first quarter of 2018.
