Apple reminds user of older iPhones, iPads to install software update soon

Apple announced that owners of older iPhones and iPads have to update to the latest iOS software soon or they will not be able to connect to the internet.

In a post on its website, iPhone and iPad products from 2012 and earlier will need the update to maintain accurate GPS location and continue using the App Store, iCloud, email and web browsing.

Apple said this is due to the GPS time rollover issue, which happens about every 19 years when GPS devices have to reset to measure time and dates..

For the updates:

1) iOS 10.3.4 for  iPhone 5 and iPad (4th generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular

2) iOS 9.3.6 for iPhone 4s, iPad mini (1st generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular (CDMA models only), iPad (3rd generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular

For users who are not sure of the version of their iPhone or iPad, follow these directions:
1. Open the Settings app
2. Tap General, then tap About
3. Look for the number next to Software Version
