Pinoy-made ‘Gnome More War’ released on Nintendo Switch

“Gnome More War,” an arcade shooter and castle defense game from Pinoy developer Hobbi Games, has just been released on the Nintendo Switch. It can be purchased from the Nintendo eShop for $2.99 USD.

Inspired by the classic arcade title “Pooyan,” “Gnome More War” tasks players with riding a vertically moving platform and shooting down hordes of pesky, barn-raiding gnomes determined to steal all your livestock. Players can expect numerous waves of enemies, progressively tougher challenges, intense boss battles, and a variety of power-ups and upgrades.

Originally released on mobile devices, the Nintendo Switch version of “Gnome More War” boasts a slew of new features.

“‘Gnome More War’ for the Nintendo Switch is the definitive version of the game, with double the number of maps and more enemies to shoot,” said solo developer Lorie Jay Gutierrez a.k.a. Hobbi Games.

New maps, characters, and a multiplayer mode

“Gnome More War” on Switch has 6 maps. The original 3 maps have been overhauled, and all 6 feature diverse obstacles designed to keep the experience fresh for players.

The new maps include Irolan Village, which introduces multiple barns to defend; So’leil Village, which comes with interactive background elements; and Eggo City, which is home to creatures that cause blindness.

The original game had players assuming the role of Freija Ylden Moonault, a staff-wielding teenage mage. The Switch version adds two new playable characters with different playstyles: the elf Nih Ichi, whose blunderbuss shoots bullets that split into three; and Scarlet Hymnia, whose magical sword shoots energy beams powerful enough to pierce all objects. Scarlet was designed by Gutierrez’s daughter.

The multiplayer mode allows two players to play locally and cooperatively using the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons or Pro Controllers.

Gutierrez hints at the possibility of additional characters and maps in the future.

“Gnome More War” has garnered international attention, with IGN featuring both the mobile and Switch versions on its website.
