OnlyFans suspends sexual content ban after backlash from creators
Content subscription service OnlyFans announced on Wednesday it will suspend its planned ban on sexually explicit content after receiving widespread backlash from creators and advocates.
In a tweet, the British-based company said that it will suspend the policy change supposedly to be implemented starting October.
"Thank you to everyone for making your voices heard," OnlyFans wrote. "We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change."
It added, "OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators."
The reversal comes one week after OnlyFans announced it will be prohibiting any content containing sexually explicit conduct but will permit nudity within "acceptable use policy."
The initial change was proposed, according to an OnlyFans statement, in response to concerns from its bankers and investors, as the company sought to broaden its audience beyond adult content to topics such as cooking and yoga.
Launched in 2016, OnlyFans introduced itself as a platform where creators can interact with fans by receiving money directly from them. The site further grew during the pandemic as it served as a platform for adult-content creators and sex workers to earn money from the safety of their homes.
Although it is unclear whether the suspension will be permanent, the company said that an official communication to creators will be emailed soon. — LA, GMA News
