Drone used to deliver emergency first aid in Sweden

Drones have been widely used for filming and other entertainment functions such as light shows.

But did you know that it can also be used to save lives?

A Swedish company, Everdrone, developed a drone that can respond to an emergency call and deliver first aid equipment in just four minutes.

Last year, the drone did exactly that when it delivered an automated external defibrillator (AED) to a 71-year-old man in Sweden who had a heart attack. The man's heart was successfully restarted.

"This is an excellent real-world example of how Everdrone's cutting-edge drone technology, fully integrated with emergency dispatch, can minimize the time for access to life-saving AED equipment," said Everdrone CEO Mats Sällström.

A useful quick response tool before emergency services arrive, the drone can get in the air in just 60 seconds after receiving an emergency call.

It can also bring other emergency aid to locations that are difficult to reach by people or vehicles.

The drone is now undergoing pilot testing for wider use in other countries.
