Student creates app that recommends ideal laundry time based on weather conditions
A student has developed an app which suggests the ideal laundry time based on weather conditions.
As seen in Martin Javier's report on "24 Oras" last Monday, JD, a computer science major, shared that the idea came to him after his grandmother repeatedly asked him to bring in the laundry whenever it rained.
"'Yung lola ko kasi is laging naglalaba tapos kapag umuulan na, ako palagi 'yung inuutusan niya na magsilong ng sinampay. Sobrang hassle din kasi magpasok at maglabas ng sinampay," he said.
Due to this experience, JD who is also a software developer created the "Maglalaba App" which will tell its users the best day to do the laundry.
"The app was released last July when marami na pong nangyaring bagyo. So timely siya," he said.
The app is simple to use: it tells users whether the weather is sunny or rainy, helping them decide the best time to do their laundry.
"For the app, 'yung data niya galing sa isang open source service which is Open Meteo. Then 'yung service niya came from multiple sources, mayroon ding locally, may globally din," JD explained. "'Yung kinukuhanan ko po ng service, sila na ang nagpoprovide ng data."
The app identifies optimal drying times to ensure clothes don't develop unpleasant odors due to poor weather conditions.
"Mayroon din siyang meter and humidity for temperature. Kung gaano kainit, gaano kalamig. Nakakaapekto din 'yon sa oras ng pagpapatuyo," JD said.
With his grandmother as the inspiration, the app was developed with a user-friendly design, making it accessible even to non-tech-savvy users.
"Ginagawa ko siya through dialogues. Instead na i-show natin ilang celsius ngayon or ilang humidity which is naka-number, ang ginagawa dito sa app para siyang comics, para siyang bubble. So doon nagpapop-up 'yung mga conversation at mga interpretation niya."
Nearly two months since its launch, the app has now generated over 60,000 users. —Jade Veronique Yap/MGP, GMA Integrated News
