Cagayan State University develops fully electric tricycle
The Cagayan State University (CSU) has developed a fully electric tricycle aimed at revamping the transport system in the region.
A sustainable alternative vehicle to gas-run tricycles, the Converted Electric Tricycle (C-Trike) can travel up to 80 kilometers on a single charge.
With a project funding of P7.79 million, C-Trike's development is part of the Department of Science and Technology's (DOST) Smart and Sustainable Communities Program.
It is a national initiative focused on creating eco-friendly mobility solutions to reduce reliance on traditional and fuel-powered vehicles.
CSU and DOST are in talks with the Federation of Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (FETODA) for possible wide-scale adoption of the program.
A local ordinance is also being eyed to regulate the use of C-Trikes in the region.
CSU also signed Technology Licensing Agreements with ACT Machineries and Metal Craft Corporation and Suki Trading Corporation for mass production opportunities and rollout to other localities.
The C-Trike is one of the innovations featured in this year’s 2025 NSTW celebration in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, which will run from November 18 to 21. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
