New ICT hub opens for Manila public school learners before 2026 school opening
Education Secretary Sonny Angara on Wednesday inaugurated a new Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Learning Resource Center at Jacinto Zamora Elementary School in Manila, providing students with improved access to digital learning tools just days before the opening of classes.
The facility, established through a partnership between the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Embassy of Israel, upgrades the school's existing ICT room into a technology-enabled learning space equipped with computers, digital learning resources, modern furniture, and a reading nook for students.
The launch comes as public schools prepare to welcome millions of learners for the opening of School Year 2026–2027 on June 8.
Angara said the project supports ongoing efforts to expand learners' access to technology and digital learning opportunities.
Angara and Israeli Ambassador Dana Kursh led the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the facility, which was funded through resources reallocated by the Israeli Embassy as part of the celebration of Israel's 78th Independence Day.
"We said, let's invest in something for the future, and investing in the future means investing in education and in the next generation of leaders," Kursh said.
DepEd said the ICT Learning Resource Center is envisioned as a multi-purpose learning hub where students can access educational materials, conduct research, complete school requirements, and develop digital skills.
The facility is also expected to support teachers through improved access to technology-based instructional materials and digital learning resources.
According to DepEd, the project complements the department's broader digital transformation initiatives, which include efforts to improve school connectivity and expand access to technology in public schools.
The Israeli Embassy said it would continue providing management support to help ensure the facility remains operational and accessible to learners beyond regular class hours.
DepEd said the project highlights the role of partnerships in improving learning environments and expanding educational opportunities for public school students. — VBL, GMA News
