Facebook down sparks fears of hacking, expired load in Philippines
Users of Meta's platforms in the Philippines responded with humor and confusion after reporting problems accessing the social media apps on Friday night.
Responding to a GMA News Facebook post asking netizens about the status of their accounts after services were restored, some users said they initially thought the platforms had been hacked.
“Akala ko nahack, it's a frank [sic] pala," said Mansul Wanhar.
(I thought my account had been hacked. Turns out it was just a prank.)
One user said she initially believed she had run out of mobile data during the outage.
"Yung akala mo naubusan ng data," said Roda Buraga.
(You know that feeling when you think you've run out of data?)
One netizen said she even uninstalled and reinstalled the Facebook app in an attempt to fix the issue.
"May pagrefresh pa ko ng Wi-Fi... uninstall at install ng FB," said Divine Grace Molina dela Cruz.
(I even refreshed my Wi-Fi connection and uninstalled and reinstalled Facebook.)
Meanwhile, another user likened the disruption to a romantic relationship.
"Parang sya lang nawala pero bumalik," said Justine Bolima.
(It’s like someone who suddenly disappears, only to come back later.)
Meta has yet to issue a statement on the cause of the outage that disrupted access to Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram. —VBL, GMA News
