Kabayan exits PAR; 7 fishermen missing

(Updated 8:57 a.m.) Severe Tropical Storm Kabayan intensified further as it exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Saturday, according to weather bureau PAGASA.

PAGASA said in its latest weather bulletin that as of 2 a.m., Kabayan's center was estimated at 425 kilometers west of Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, moving west-northwest at 20 kilometers per hour.

Kabayan was packing maximum winds of 95 kph near the center, and gusts of up to 120 kph. Estimated rainfall amount within the storm's 300 km diameter was from moderate to heavy.

With Kabayan's exit, the whole country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Winds will be moderate to strong from the southwest to southeast over the western section of Luzon, and from the northeast to southeast over the rest of Luzon.

Coastal waters along those areas will be moderate to rough, with sea travel risky along the western seaboard of northern and Central Luzon.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate from northeast to northwest, with slight to moderate seas.

PAGASA weather forecaster Buddy Javier told radio dzBB that a ridge of high pressure area in the extreme Northern Luzon will bring rains in several parts of the country this weekend.

The weather bureau is expecting two more cyclones to enter the PAR this month.
