Typhoon Ferdie intensifies; possible Batanes landfall on Wednesday


Typhoon Ferdie (international name Meranti) intensified further as it continued to move west-northwest at 22 kilometers per hour, weather service PAGASA reported in a Sunday night bulletin.
 
At 10 p.m., Ferdie was 1,145 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora, and had maximum winds of up to 140 kph, which can gust up to 170 kph. Estimated rainfall amount within the typhoon's 300 km diameter was from moderate to heavy.
 
 
According to PAGASA's earlier projections, Fredie could make landfall over the Batanes Islands by Wednesday morning. After which it should be 480 kms west-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday evening.
