Isolated rains expected in Manila as Tropical Storm Nina enters PAR


Severe Tropical Storm Nina (International name: Nock-ten) has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 3 a.m. early Friday morning and was estimated to be 960 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, according to PAGASA's 5 a.m. weather bulletin.

"Nina" has maximum sustained winds of up to 95 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 120 kph. Based on the same report, the storm is expected to move West Northwest at 25 kph.

Reports on Thursday said the storm is expected to make landfall on Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, the Northwest Monsoon is also affecting Northern Luzon.

Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao Region will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms while the regions of Ilocos, Cordillera and Cagayan Valley will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas. — BAP/KG, GMA News
