9 areas still under Signal No. 1 as Amang changes course, moves toward Leyte-Samar area


 


Nine areas are still under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 1 even as Tropical Depression Amang changed its course and now tracks the Leyte-Samar area, according to weather bureau PAGASA on Monday morning.

The areas under TCWS No. 1 are as follows:

  • Eastern Samar,
  • Samar,
  • Biliran,
  • Leyte,
  • Southern Leyte,
  • eastern Bohol,
  • northern Cebu,
  • Surigao del Norte, and
  • the Dinagat Islands

As of 7 a.m., Amang was spotted at the vicinity of Guiuan, Eastern Samar packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA said Amang was tracking the northwest direction at 10 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy rains would prevail in Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas and Bicol region.

It also forecasted that residents in Eastern Visayas, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate would experience moderate to heavy rains on Tuesday, January 22.

Residents are advised to take appropriate measures against floods and landslides.

Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of areas under TCWS No. 1, the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon, and the eastern seaboards of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao due to Amang and the surge of Northeast Monsoon. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
