Chedeng makes landfall over Davao Occidental, weakens into LPA


Tropical Depression Chedeng made landfall on Tuesday morning over Malita, Davao Occidental and has weakened into a low pressure area.

Chedeng made landfall past 5 a.m., according to PAGASA, as reported by Allan Gatus on Super Radyo dzBB.

 

 

In a press conference past 8 a.m. on Tuesday, PAGASA said the tropical depression weakened into a low pressure area after it made landfall at 5:30 a.m. in the vicinity of Malita, Davao Occidental.

By 7 a.m., the LPA was over Malungon, Sarangani, and by 8 a.m. it was moving over the SOCCSKSARGEN area.

PAGASA said Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals have already been lifted.

However, a gale warning remains in effect over the eastern seaboards of Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat, Surigao provinces, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, and Davao Occidental.

The waves in these areas will reach as tall as 4.5 meters.

Sea travel for small seacraft is not advised in these areas.

Scattered to at times widespread moderate to heavy rains will be experienced over most of Mindanao, particularly Surigao del Sur, Davao region, SOCCSKARGEN, Bangsamoro, Agusan del Sur, portions of Mindanao, and the Zamboanga Peninsula.

Meanwhile, in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, partly to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail. PAGASA said the LPA will not have an effect in these areas.

In Visayas, meanwhile, the trough of the LPA will cause isolated rain showers. —KG, GMA News
