Egay sluggish over Cagayan; Signal No. 1 still up over Batanes, Babuyan islands
Tropical Depression Egay was "almost not moving" at 205 kilometers east of Cagayan, weather bureau PAGASA said on Monday in a press briefing.
“Base na rin sa meteorological data na nakalap natin, halos hindi kumikilos itong bagyong si Egay,” PAGASA senior weather specialist Chris Perez said.
Signal No. 1 remained hoisted over Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands.
These areas will experience winds of 30 to 60 kilometers per hour (kph) in 36 hours, according to the latest PAGASA severe weather bulletin.
Egay maintained its strength with maximum winds of up to 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph, PAGASA said.
The southwest monsoon (Habagat) will bring light to moderate or at times heavy monsoon rains over most parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, and Western Visayas.
Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms are expected over Caraga, Davao Region, and the rest of Visayas.
On Tuesday, the monsoon rains may continue over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Mindoro Provinces and Palawan.
PAGASA advised those with small seacraft not the venture out to these areas as moderate to rough seas are expected over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon in the next 24 hours.
Residents in affected areas, especially those living in areas identified to be at high risk of flooding and landslides, are also advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
