Hanna intensifies into a tropical storm – PAGASA
Tropical Cyclone Hanna (international name Lekima) intensified into a tropical storm Sunday afternoon, weather service PAGASA reported in a 4 p.m. weather report.
At 3 p.m., Tropical Storm Hanna was 1,060 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan with 65 kilometer per hour winds and gusts of up to 80 kph.
Hanna was moving north at 15 kph, and would likely exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility sometime between Thursday and Friday next week.
Though Hanna gained strength, it would be the southwest monsoon that would be responsible for the inclement conditions over most of the country.
The moderate to at times heavy rain over Metro Manila, the MIMAROPA Region, the Western Visayas Region, Bataan, Zambales, Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas would be due to the southwest monsoon.
The monsoon would also bring scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, the rest of Central Luzon, the rest of the Visayas, Rizal, and Quezon.
The rest of Luzon could expect cloudy conditions accompanied with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms due to TS Hanna's trough, while Mindanao would be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers. — DVM, GMA News
