Hanna 'almost stationary' as it enhances Habagat

Tropical Storm Hanna (Lekima) was "almost stationary" before dawn Tuesday as it continued to enhance the southwest monsoon (Habagat), according to PAGASA.

At a briefing at 5 a.m., PAGASA said Hanna is located 815 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan, as of 3 a.m. packing maximum winds of 85 km/h and gustiness of up to 105 km/h.

PAGASA also said Hanna is expected to intensify into a severe tropical storm within the day and possibly also into a typhoon before it exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday.

"Kahit po nasa labas ito ng PAR makararanas pa rin po tayo ng pag-ulan dito sa may western section ng Luzon at dito rin sa Visayas dahil po sa Habagat," said weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin at the briefing.

PAGASA said the areas of MIMAROPA, Aklan and Antique may experience moderate to heavy monsoon rain within the day while the areas of Bicol, Calabarzon, Zambales, Bataan and rest of Western Visayas will likely experience scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. —KBK, GMA News
