Metro Manila under Signal No.1 as Jenny slightly accelerates

Twenty-nine areas, including Metro Manila, were under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 on Tuesday morning as Tropical Depression Jenny slightly accelerated while moving westward, according to PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin.

Under TCWS No. 1 were:

  • northeastern portion of Camarines Sur
  • Catanduanes
  • Cavite
  • Ifugao

  • Laguna
  • La Union
  • Metro Manila
  • Mountain Province
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Pampanga
  • Pangasinan
  • northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands
  • Quirino
  • Rizal
  • Tarlac
  • Zambales

The foul weather has prompted many local government units to suspend classes for the day.

PAGASA said for Tuesday, intermittent to frequent moderate to heavy rains will be experienced over Bicol Region, Samar Provinces, Quezon, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Isabela and Cagayan.

Metro Manila will have light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains as well as the rest of Luzon and Visayas, and the regions of Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Bangsamoro.

From Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning, intermittent to frequent moderate to heavy rains may be experienced over Central Luzon, Metro Manila, northern portion of Quezon (including Polillo Island), Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Benguet, Pangasinan and Rizal.

Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains may affect Western Visayas and the rest of Luzon.

Residents in the affected areas, especially those living in areas susceptible to floods and rain-induced landslides, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates.

Areas under TCWS are advised to take precautionary measures against potentially strong winds. Meanwhile, occasional gusty conditions may also occur in Visayas and other areas of Luzon due to the Southwest Monsoon.

As of 4 a.m., the center of Tropical Depression Jenny was at 395 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes or 525 km East of Daet, Camarines Norte packing maximum winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph and moving West at 25 kph.

Jenny may make landfall in Aurora on Tuesday evening or early Wednesday morning. Intensification into a Tropical Storm before landfall remains less likely, but not ruled out. — BAP, GMA News
