Marilyn maintains course, strength; showers expected over central PHL


Tropical Depression Marilyn maintained its strength even as it continued to head east-northeast at 10 kph, weather service PAGASA reported in a Saturday afternoon forecast.

At 3 p.m., Marilyn was 1,310 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes with 45 kph winds and gusts of up to 55 kph.

Meanwhile, the Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Bicol Regions, as well as Metro Manila and the entire Visayas, could expect cloudy conditions accompanied with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.

The rest of the country could expect partly cloudy to cloudy conditions accompanied with isolated rainshowers.

Winds would be moderate to strong from the southwest over southern Luzon and the Visayas, where coastal waters would be moderate to rough.

Over northern and Central Luzon, winds would be moderate to strong from the northeast to northwest with moderate to rough surrounding sea conditions.

Finally, winds over Mindanao would be moderate to strong from the south to southwest with moderate to rough coastal waters. — DVM, GMA News
