Good weather seen in Manila, rest of PHL on Sunday as Perla to exit PAR —PAGASA

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers on Sunday due to localized thunderstorms, PAGASA weather specialist Gener Quitlong said on Saturday.

In a video update, the weather bureau said the Northeasterly Surface Windflow will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers over Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, and Cagayan.

The windflow may also cause occasional gusty conditions over extreme northern Luzon.

Severe Tropical Storm Perla has no significant effect on the country and may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Sunday evening or Monday morning, PAGASA said.

According to the weather bureau, Perla is maintaining its strength and may intensify into a typhoon in 24 hours.

PAGASA added that Perla will change its path on Saturday evening, moving toward Japan. However, it will not hit Japan but may possibly affect its southern part.

At 3 p.m., Perla was estimated at 570 kilometers East-Northeast of Basco, Batanes, with 100 kilometers per hour of maximum sustained winds and gustiness of up to 125 kph.

PAGASA is also monitoring a shallow low pressure area (SLPA) outside the PAR.

The weather bureau said the SLPA is not expected to turn into a storm but added it was not discounting the possibility it might

It is expected to enter the PAR by Monday or Tuesday and may possibly make land fall over central or southern Luzon in the coming days.

Though the SLPA may enter PAR, PAGASA assured it will stay along the border.

Behind the SLPA is a tropical depression also being monitored by the weather bureau.

PAGASA said it may turn into a typhoon in the next two to three days and may become as strong as Typhoon Hagibis.

The weather bureau reminded that their predictions may change as the SLPA and the tropical depression are still far from the country.
