Tisoy weakens further, but Signal No. 3 remains up in 3 areas


Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 remained raised over three areas in Luzon as a weaker Typhoon Tisoy moved to the coast of Occidental Mindoro, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

In its 5 p.m. Severe Weather Bulletin, PAGASA said the center of the cyclone was last located 110 kilometers northwest of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, carrying maximum sustained winds of up to 130 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 200 kph.

Tisoy continues to move west at 25 kph and is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday afternoon.

By Wednesday afternoon, the cyclone is expected to be 375 kilometers west of Subic, Zambales.

Signal No. 3 was raised over the following areas:

  • Oriental Mindoro
  • Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island
  • Batangas

Signal No. 2 was declared over:

  • Romblon
  • Camarines Norte
  • Metro Manila
  • Bulacan
  • Bataan
  • Tarlac
  • Pampanga
  • Rizal
  • Quezon including Polillo Islands
  • Zambales
  • Marinduque
  • Cavite
  • Laguna
  • Northern portion of Camarines Sur (Cabugao, Libmanan, Pamplona, Pasacao, Sipocot, Lupi, Ragay, Del Gallego)
  • Southern Nueva Ecija (Cabanatuan City, Cabiao, Gabaldon, Gapan City, General Tinio, Jaen, Laur, Palayan City, Peñaranda, San Antonio, San Isidro, San Leonardo, Santa Rosa, Aliaga, Licab, Zaragoza)
  • Southern Aurora (Dipaculao, Maria Aurora, Baler, San Luis, Dingalan)
  • Calamian Islands (Coron, Busuanga, Culion, Linapacan).

The following areas are under Signal No. 1:

  • Southern portion of Quirino (Nagtipunan)
  • Rest of Aurora
  • Northern portion of Palawan (El Nido, Taytay, Araceli, Dumaran)
  • Rest of Camarines Sur
  • Cuyo Islands (Cuyo, Magsaysay, Agutaya)
  • Pangasinan
  • Southern portion of Nueva Vizcaya (Alfonso Castaneda, Aritao, Dupax Del Norte, Dupax Del Sur, Kasibu, Santa Fe)
  • Burias Island
  • Rest of Nueva Ecija
  • Northen Aklan (Malay, Buruanga, Nabas, Ibajay)
  • Northern Antique (Caluya, Libertad, Pandan)

PAGASA also warned of a storm surge up to three meters high in several coastal areas in Marinduque, Mindoro Provinces, Romblon, Cavite, and Batangas.

Sea travel was also declared “risky” due to rough sea conditions.

Rainfall outlook

The rainfall outlook between late Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning is as follows:

Frequent to continuous heavy (isolated intense rains): Quezon and Rizal

Occasional to frequent heavy rains: Mindoro Provinces, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, rest of CALABARZON, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Marinduque, and Romblon

Intermittent heavy rains: Calamian Islands.

Gusty conditions may also be experienced in areas in Northern Luzon due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”

PAGASA advised residents in affected areas to coordinate with local disaster management offices and continue monitoring updates.

Impact

The typhoon has toppled trees and flooded roads across the Philippines since it made landfall late Monday night. 

Several airports also sustained damage caused by harsh winds and torrential rainfall.
