LPA, tail-end of cold front to bring rain over Visayas, Caraga, Mindanao, Davao

The trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) and the tail-end of a cold front are expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region on Friday, PAGASA said Thursday.

In its 24-hour weather update, the weather bureau advised residents against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rain.

At 3 p.m. on Thursday, the LPA was last estimated at 480 kilometers east-southeast of Davao City.

Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon is also expected to bring cloudy skies with light rain over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Region, Bicol Region, and Quezon.

It is also expected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

The rest of Mindanao, meanwhile, may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to severe thunderstorms.

Gale warnings are raised over Batanes, Calayan, Babuyan, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Northern Quezon General Nakar, Polillo Islands Panukulan, Northern Burdeos, Patnanungan and Jomalig, Camarines provinces, Catanduanes, Rapu-Rapu Islands, Sorsogon Prieto Diaz, Gubat, and Barcelona.

They are also raised over Ilocos Norte, the northern and eastern coasts of Northern Samar, and the eastern coast of Eastern Samar.

According to the weather bureau, this is due to strong to gale force winds associated with the surge of the northeast monsoon.
