Typhoon Ambo crosses Dalupiri, Capul and Ticao Islands and now approaching Burias Island, PAGASA reported in its Severe Weather Bulletin issued at 2 a.m.

The eyewall region of Typhoon Ambo is bringing violent winds and heavy to intense rains over Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands.

The typhoon is forecast to make landfall over Burias Island within the next hour and over Bondoc Peninsula in Southern Quezon by Friday morning.

Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Bicol Region, Quezon, Northern Samar, Marinduque, Laguna, and Rizal.

  • Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands

Residents in these areas are advised to take appropriate measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the local rainfall or thunderstorm advisories and heavy rainfall warnings from PAGASA Regional Services Divisions (PRSD).

Flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur in highly to very highly susceptible areas during heavy or prolonged rainfall.

In the next 24 hours, storm surge height of more than 2.0 meters may be experienced over the coastal areas of Catanduanes, Camarines Sur (north and east coast), Camarines Norte, and Quezon (coast facing Lamon and Lopez Bays) and between 1.0 to 2.0 meters over the other coastal areas of Bicol Region, Quezon, and the coastal areas of Aurora, Samar (west coast), and Northern Samar (northwestern coast). Along with large swells, this storm surge may cause potentially life-threatening coastal inundation.

Sea travel is risky for all types of seacrafts over the seaboards of areas under TCWS.

As of 1 a.m. the eye of Typhoon Ambo was located at 55 kilometers west southwest of Juban, Sorsogon or 30 km north northwest of Masbate City, Masbate.

Ambo is packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kph and moving northwestward at 15 kph. -- BAP, GMA News
