Heat index hits 43°C in Quezon City
The heat index for the day was recorded at the Science Garden, Quezon City hit 43°C, according to a report by PAGASA on Tuesday.
The computation of the heat index is computed from 34.6°C air temperature and 58% relative humidity.

Heat index is a measure indicating the level of discomfort experienced by a person as a result of the combined effects of the temperature and humidity of the air.
PAGASA warns that a heat index ranging from 41°C to 54°C may lead to heat cramps and exhaustion. Heat stroke is also possible amid continuous physical activity.
The temperature of 34.6°C was also recorded at 1:50 p.m. at the Science Garden synoptic station.
In Tuguegarao City, the recorded temperature was 37.7°C, while in Echague, Isabela the temperature was 37.6°C then 36.2°C in Camiling in Tarlac, 36.1°C Pili in Camarines Sur and Science City of Munoz with 36°C.
"Nasa panahon pa rin tayo ng tag-init kaya dalasan pa rin ang pag-inom ng tubig at bawasan ang physical activities sa tanghali/hapon para maiwasan ang heat stress," the weather agency advised.
The weather bureau posted some tips to avoid heat stroke:
- Stay indoors as much as possible, if air conditioning is not available, stay on the lowest floor out of the sunshine
- Wear lightweight and light colored clothing. Light colors will reflect the sun's energy.
- Drink plenty of water regularly. The body needs water to keep cool.
- Water is the safest liquid to drink during heat emergencies. Avoid drinking liquor because it dehydrates the body.
- Eat small meals however eat more often. Avoid eating foods of high in protein which can increase metabolic heat.
